SIALKOT: Custom Intelligence and Investigation Department Gujranwala Division has confiscated smuggled Indian origin cloth and Iranian nylon rope at General Bus Stand Gujranwala here on other day worth Rs.150.000.
According to details, Assistant Director Ms .Zainab Mehmood formed different teams to curb smuggling attempts in the region. Customs team under the supervision of Superintendent Muhammad Akmal and Deputy Inspector Mian Muhammad Yousaf which also includes constables Riaz, Riasat, Muhammad Ali started checking of vehicles on General Bus Stand coming from Rawalpindi, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and other cities.
During the checking process customs team recovered smuggled Indian origin cloth from a bus which was coming from Muzafarabad bearing registration number AJK-037-Mzd-020-10 . The same team recovered smuggled Iranian nylon rope from a van bearing registration number RIA-3352-13.
When team members asked about documents from drivers Raja Akbar and Fareed Awan about smuggled cloth and nylon rope but both drivers were failed to show any related documents. The team confiscated cloth and nylon rope whereas released drivers after proper interrogation.
The team shifted recovered items to the compound of office of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department at Sethi Colony Gujranwala Cantt.
An official of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department told Customs Today that campaign against smuggling will continue and it is in full swing. Official said that required staff of customs intelligence is also performing their duty during Eid-Ul-Fitar holidays.
He said of Customs Intelligence and Investigation authorities and Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) will start joint anti-smuggling campaign from July 12,2016 to curb smuggling. It is learnt that the Federal Board Of Revenue (FBR) has strictly instructed Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department and Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) to curb smuggling and take stern action to eliminate the smugglers from the country.
