Sialkot Customs foils bid to smuggle 40 tolas of gold to Manchester

SIALKOT: Collectorate of Customs team deputed at Sialkot International Airport Tuesday foiled a bid to smuggle 40 tolas of gold ornament from a passenger travelling to Manchester via Dubai on a flight EK 621.

Sources told Customs Today that during checking of passengers departing for United Kingdom (UK) Customs Inspector Safdar Mahi on suspension intercepted a passenger Muhammad Farooq of Mirpur Khas, village Killan and recovered from him 10 bangles of gold of total 40 grams. The total value of the bangle is estimated at Rs4.5 million.  The passenger has tactfully hidden the gold in the luggage.

A case has been registered while further investigations are underway.

Earlier, Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) authorities claimed to have seized a parcel bound for the United States, carrying drugs.

According to the ANF authorities, during an action in Sialkot, they foiled a bid to smuggle drugs abroad in a parcel. The recovered parcel carried around 6.9 kilograms of drugs and could worth up to millions in the international market.

The authorities said that the drugs were booked for a US address and the authorities are further probing the matter.
