Sialkot Customs seizes smuggled goods worth Rs 9.17m in 1Q of FY2016-17

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Gujranwala registered 22 smuggling cases and confiscated smuggled items worth of Rs 9.17 million during the first three  months of the current fiscal year 2016-17.

Official sources told Customs Today that Deputy Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Gujranwala Region Ms Zaineb Mehmood formed various teams to curb smuggling on the directives of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

The teams intercepted various vehicles during checking on GT Road and other roads and recovered smuggled items after searching of vehicles. The seized items included non-duty paid vehicles, Iranian nylon rope, scrape, cloth, black tea, Iranian tyres, toys and others miscellaneous smuggled items. They also nabbed accused persons failed to provide any legal documents regarding possession of items. After confiscating of the goods the Customs Intelligence has forwarded the cases to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. Customs Intelligence of Gujranwala region has continued its campaign against smuggling with departmental limited sources and shortage of staff.

Sources told that it is big achievement of officials of department that they are achieving target and trying to curb smuggling for the betterment of country.
