Sialkot Customs seizes contraband items worth Rs 11m

SIALKOT: The Model Customs House of Sialkot recovered smuggled goods worth Rs 11 million during the month of May in various raids under ant-smuggling campaign.

Additional Collector Ahmed Reza Khan received information about some smuggling attempts. He divided Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) in three zones and these zone heads were Additional Collector Waheed Anwar Abro, Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Chaudhary and Assistant Collector Chaudhary Muhammad Hanif. The zone heads constituted various teams and also ordered to enhance surveillance in the area.

During the general hold-ups, the customs teams seized non-duty paid vehicles, Indian black tea, art silk cloth, rani juice, cigarettes, mobile phones, narcotics and other some goods. After seizing the vehicles and goods customs team prepared seizure reports and forwarded the cases to customs adjudication for further proceedings.

Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Choudhary Told Customs Today that the Anti smuggling campaign is continue by the order of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).He said that this campaign will accelerate after June and the Customs department will tighten noose around the smugglers.

He said that the Customs department is running campaign with limited sources and shortage of staff but the Customs department Sialkot has showed best performance to curb smuggling. He said that the fruitful results are observing day by day. He mentioned that the government is making a plan to fulfil the shortage of staff and provide better resources to make success the Anti Smuggling Campaign.
