Sialkot Customs seizes currency worth Rs 37m after adjudication’s verdicts

SIALKOT: The Model Customs Collectorate seized foreign currency worth Rs 37 million, which was recovered during different anti-money laundering operations, after the decisions announced by the Customs Adjudication in favour of the customs.

Sialkot Customs Deputy Collector Muhammad Hanif Khan told Customs Today that the Customs Preventive staff recovered foreign currency from several passengers at Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) during different actions.

The Customs Preventive staff performed duty under the strict directions of Collector Ahmed Reza Khan whereas Additional Collector Faiz Ali, Deputy Collectors Waheed Anwar Abro, Muhammad Ilyas and Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Choudhary supervised the activities of the officials in their respective zones, he said.

He informed that the staff recovered foreign currency, including Euro 180,000, $155,000 and other currency worth Rs 37 million

After arresting the accused persons, the cases were registered to the Customs Adjudication for further legal proceedings. However, the adjudication decided that the recovered amount is property of customs department and it will be deposit to national exchequer.
