SIALKOT: Under the directions of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Customs Collectorate Sialkot and Customs Intelligence and Investigation department of Gujranwala division have launched a campaign against selling of smuggled imported cigarettes
Sources told Customs Today that the officials of both departments raided various shops which were selling imported cigarettes and examined all stocks of shops.
Sources said that the officials of both departments warned shopkeepers that if they will find involved in selling any smuggled cigarettes as like Pine, More, Dunhil etc. then stern action against them will be taken against them besides registering cases against them as per customs law.
An official of Customs Collectorate told Customs Today that the government has imposed ban on selling of smuggled imported cigarettes, therefore, the customs departments has started campaign against selling of said cigarettes. When contacted official of Customs Intelligence and Investigation department Mian Mian Muhammad Yousaf about anti-smuggling campaign he told that the shopkeepers involved in selling of banned and smuggled imported cigarettes and it has brought notice of FBR and higher customs authorities then they issued directions to take action against shopkeeper who were selling said cigarettes allegedly.
He said that the both departments have raided many shops and warned shopkeepers not to sell non-duty paid cigarettes otherwise they will be arrested and case would be registered and their shops will be sealed and no pressure will be accepted to release them so they should careful in future.
