Sialkot Excise issues final notice to owners of 1,500 token tax defaulter vehicles

SIALKOT: As many as 1,500 different kinds of vehicles owned by the different government departments, including big national and multinational companies and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), are token tax defaulters in Gujranwala Division.

According to the senior officials of the Excise and Taxation Department, the owners of 423 Yellow Cab vehicles have not yet paid their taxes, while another 700 vehicles have also not paid their taxes for the last five years.

As many as 35 vehicles of the police department, two vehicles of the PTCL and 15 vehicles of the Gepco were also defaulters of motor registration and token fees since long and despite issuance of the recovery notices, the departments are reluctant to clear the pending arrears worth millions of rupees.

Now, the Excise Department has issued the final recovery notices to the owners of the vehicles asking them to clear their dues within two weeks. After this, the Excise Department would issue the lists of these chronic defaulters to the federal and provincial governments, seeking their help in recovering their outstanding arrears.
