Sialkot: FIA unable to recover Rs 240m fine from influential gas pilferers

SIALKOT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has remained unable to recover the fine of Rs 240 million from as many as 30 big and politically influential industrialists of Sialkot and Gujranwala despite a lapse of two years.

According to details, special teams of the FIA had detected gas pilferage in factories and industrial units of as many as 37 big industrialists in Sialkot and Gujranwala during a special campaign against gas pilferage two years ago.

The FIA had fined them Rs 249 million, and seven of the accused had deposited their collective fine of Rs 9 million.

However, 30 big industrialists – stated to be politically influential – are reluctant to pay their fine of Rs 240 million.

When contacted, the senior FIA officials concerned said that several recovery notices had been issued to the pilferers for payment of dues, but they had not yet paid their fine.

They said that the FIA would soon move the local courts for ensuring early recovery of the said amount from them.
