Sialkot, Gujranwala RTOs to recover Rs 2.5b from luxury vehicles’ owners

SIALKOT: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Regional Tax Offices (RTOs), Gujranwala and Sialkot have made a plan to recover Rs.2.5 billion from 400 owners of luxury vehicles who purchased vehicles without payment of taxes by concealing their source of income.

The RTOs have issued notices to accused person directing them to clear the taxes, besides warning them of impounding the vehicles on not depositing the liable taxes during the given time period.

Meanwhile, RTO Sialkot Chief Commissioner Imran Raza Kazmi and Gujranwala Chief Commissioner Mansoor Ahmed Bajwa instructed all staff to start speedy process of recovery in order to meet the target by the end of running fiscal year. The officials were also directed to take hard steps against the tax defaulters to arrest them.

Both chief commissioners formed special teams to impound the vehicles and directed them to take action against the defaulters under Section 140 of FBR act.

Sources told that both RTOs collected the record of vehicles from Excise and Taxation Department of six districts fall in their jurisdiction and detected 400 tax defaulters while scrutinising the data.

The sources added that members of federal and provincial assemblies and local bodies were also included in the list of guilty owners. They added that almost every accused person purchased vehicle worth Rs 8-9 million but never paid taxes to the government.
