Sindh Excise speeds up tax recovery drive

KARACHI: The Sindh Excise and Taxation Department has expedited the tax recovery drive.

According to sources, on the special orders of Sindh Excise Minister Gayan Chand Israni the department has sped up the recovery process. Tax recovery drive has been started on Friday. Director Excise Shaoib Ahmed Siddiqui is monitoring the operation. So far, 16 vehicles have been impounded for not paying token tax.

Sources said only those vehicles were impounded which had not paid token tax for more than two years. The impounded vehicles will be returned to their owners after they paid token tax. Seven of the 16 vehicles have been handed over to their owners after they paid token tax.

Excise Department official Ghulam Sabir said tax recovery drive had sped up after orders from high-ups. He said they would try to recover as much tax as they can.
