Sindh launches WB assisted project to enhance livestock productivity

HYDERABAD: Sindh Livestock and Fisheries Department organized a workshop here at a local hotel on Tuesday on the project launched by Sindh Government under financial assistance of the World Bank.

The objectives of the project is to realize the importance of livestock for agriculture development of the province, the spokesman of the department informed and added that under the project, training would be provided to small growers to improve their socio-economic condition by adopting latest and advance technology of the field.

The Director General Sindh Livestock Department Dr. Ali Akbar Soomro who is also the Project Director briefed the participants of the workshop that under the project Milk Production Groups have been formed where the facilities like veterinary services, vaccination and tagging the animals are being provided to livestock owners.

Initially, he informed that ten districts of the province have been targeted where the services of International Livestock Research Institute have been hired to guide and train the livestock owners to improve the milk and meat production, preserve and transport the same to market.

Among others, Director Animal Breading Dr. Jamil Shaikh, Executive Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Abdul Qadir Junejo, Deputy Project Director Dr. Javed Memon and country representative of International Livestock Research Institute Prof. Muhammad Nawaz also attended the workshop.
