SINGAPORE – The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) seized a large amount of drugs, including some from a “mobile drug store”, in two separate operations.
The drugs seized from the two operations, which included 5kg of cannabis and 600g of “Ice”, have an estimated street value of more than $340,000, CNB said in a press release on Tuesday.
The 5kg of cannabis was seized on Monday afternoon from a car.
CNB officers deployed at Senoko Drive observed a Malaysian lorry driver place a red plastic bag on the rear seat of the car driven by the suspected drug trafficker, 34, and his accomplice, 29. Both are Singaporeans.
Both vehicles then drove off in different directions.
The lorry was stopped at the Woodlands Checkpoint and the driver placed under arrest. Shortly after, the suspected local drug trafficker and his accomplice were arrested along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1.
The red plastic bag found in the car contained about 5kg of cannabis. From the centre console of the car, officers recovered three tobacco packets containing about 60g of cannabis.
A search of the male accomplice recovered three packets of “Ice” and cash amounting to S$11,300. A car key was also found on the front passenger seat.
It was the key to a car parked at a multi-storey carpark in Havelock, which was being used as a “mobile drug store”.
CNB officers recovered a total of about 750g of cannabis, 350g of “Ice”, a weighing scale, some drug paraphernalia and a chopper in the “mobile drug store”.
In the second operation on Monday, CNB officers arrested a suspected drug abuser along Balestier Road.
The male suspect was led to a hotel room in the area, believed to be a drug store. Officers found various types of drugs, including heroin and tablets of various colours.
Two other male Singaporeans were arrested in the vicinity. Drugs, drug paraphernalia and large amounts of cash were found either on the suspects or in their hotel rooms.
One of the suspects, a 40-year-old man, is wanted in connection to a Sept 15 case where about 1kg of cannabis and 167g of “Ice” were seized.
Investigations into the drug activities of all arrested persons are ongoing, CNB said.
Those convicted of trafficking in more than 500g of cannabis or trafficking in more than 250g of methamphetamine may face the death penalty.
