SINGAPORE: Two suspected drug traffickers – a Singaporean and a Malaysian – were arrested in an operation, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a media release here the other day.

A total of 936g of heroin, 147g of ‘Ice’, and cash of S$1,000 were seized in the operation, according to CNB.

CNB said the drugs had an estimated street value of more than S$90,000.

Both men were arrested on Thursday morning by CNB officers deployed in the vicinity of Teck Whye Lane. About 466g of heroin was recovered from the 48-year-old male Singaporean suspected drug trafficker. CNB added that it also recovered about 12g of heroin and 10g of ‘Ice’ in a subsequent search of his residence.

CNB officers also recovered about 25g of ‘Ice’ and some drug utensils on the 33-year-old male Malaysian. They recovered another stash of drugs – 458g of heroin and 112g of ‘Ice’ – as well as the cash of S$1,000 after a search of his motorcycle, which was parked in the vicinity, CNB said.

Investigations into the drug activities of both men are ongoing, said CNB. If the amount of pure heroin, also known as diamorphine, trafficked exceeds 15g, they may face the death penalty.

According to CNB, 15g of diamorphine is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 180 abusers for a week. The 936g of heroin seized in this operation would be enough to sustain the addiction of about 440 heroin abusers for a week, CNB added.
