SINGAPORE: The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) seized 900g of cannabis at the Woodlands Checkpoint.
The drugs were found wrapped with newspapers and plastic, tucked in the pants of a 20-year-old Malaysian man who had been stopped for routine checks, it said in a joint press release with the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). ICA officers had their suspicions raised when they saw a bulge at the back of the man’s waist.
The authorities said that the cannabis was worth an estimated street value of about S$29,000, and that the amount seized is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 128 cannabis abusers for a week.
They added that under the Misuse of Drugs Act, those convicted of importing more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.
