“The Port of Singapore clinched the award for its leading performance on a range of criteria including cost competitiveness, container shipping-friendly fee regime, provision of suitable containing shipping-related infrastructure, timely and adequate investment in new infrastructure to meet future demand and the facilitation of ancillary services,” the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said in a press release.

MPA chief executive Andrew Tan said while the authority was “humbled and honoured by the award, it would not rest on its laurels.

“MPA will continue to work closely with industry stakeholders to plan ahead and implement measures to keep our current standing,” he said.

For example, construction is underway for the country’s future Tuas Terminal that will see a total capacity of up to 65 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) upon full completion, he added.

Home-grown global container group PSA was also separately recognised with two awards at AFLAS. PSA International won “Best Global Container Terminal Operating Company” while PSA Singapore Terminals clinched “Best Container Terminal – Asia (Over 4 million TEUs)”.

PSA International group chief executive officer Tan Chong Meng said the show of support by the industry was an “encouraging shot in the arm” for all at PSA.

“We are honoured to receive the accolades and will continue to invest in new projects and upgrade our portfolio, processes and people to be able to meet our customers’ growing needs,” he said.
