Singapore stocks start higher, STI up 0.04%

SINGAPORE: DESPITE the US index closing on a lacklustre note, the Singapore stock market opened modestly up on Thursday morning.

The Straits Times Index opened 0.04 per cent higher or up 1.55 points at 3,448.57 on Thursday morning. Some 74.2 million shares changed hands as at 9.03am. Gainers beat losers 82 to 69.

On Wall Street overnight, the S&P 500 closed lower following disappointing US jobs and manufacturing data, raising concerns that the economy was losing momentum.
