The Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has opted to build a 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Centre that will allow it to build a digital twin port.
Dr Lam Pin Min Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Transport opened the Centre of Excellence in Modelling and Simulation of Next Generation Ports (C4NGP).
The new centre will be run by the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI).
C4NGP is expected to deepen research, and promote innovation, within Singapore’s port sector.
Min said: “The port is a cornerstone of our maritime ecosystem, connecting Singapore to more than 600 ports in some 120 countries.
“It is thus critical that our port stays ahead of competition.
“To cater for ever larger vessels and increased activities within our port waters, we are building the new Tuas Terminal to scale up our port capacity.”
The Tuas Terminal is expected to be one of the world’s most advanced port terminals on completion.
