PEKAN NENAS: A 24-year-old Singaporean who regularly travelled to Johor to fuel up his motorcycle has been fined RM11,000 (S$3,800) for entering Malaysia without a valid pass and trying to leave Malaysia without presenting his passport.
Abu Sufian Ja’id was slapped with the fine in lieu of 11 months’ jail after pleading guilty to two offences.
According to the facts of the case, Abu Sufian was caught at the motorcycle lane at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex for entering Malaysia without a valid pass at 9.25am on April 7.
He was first charged under Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act for entering Malaysia without a valid pass, and another charge under Section 2(2) of the Passport Act 1966 for not showing his passport to an immigration official.
Sessions Court Judge Salawati Djambari sentenced Abu Sufian to a total of RM11,000 in fines for two offences, in lieu of 11 months’ jail.
At press time, Abu Sufian had been sent to prison as he had not paid the fine.
