SINGAPORE: A 38-year-old suspected drug trafficker was arrested on Wednesday evening (May 27), the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a news release here the other day. About 2.2kg of heroin was seized, estimated to be worth more than S$154,000, was seized from him, along with cash of S$14,400.
The suspect was arrested within a commercial building in the area of Tampines North by CNB officers. He was believed to be awaiting a fresh consignment of drugs, CNB stated.
At abour 8.10pm on Wednesday, CNB officers spotted a man who was carrying a green-coloured bag, meeting the suspected drug trafficker inside the building. They moved to a side staircase and at about 8.35pm, one of the men left in a taxi without the green bag.
The suspected trafficker was arrested shortly after he emerged from the stairwell with the green bag. About 1.4kg of heroin was found in the bag and a further search of the man’s locker at the commercial building recovered another about 0.8kg of heroin, along with drug paraphernalia and cash amounting to S$6,400.
The other man, a 27-year-old Malaysian, was stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint when attempting to exit Singapore. Cash amounting to S$8,000 was recovered from him and his 26-year-old Malaysian travelling companion.
CNB officers arrested another 27-year-old Singaporean man in Simei in a follow-up investigation. The three men and one woman are currently under investigation. If convicted, the 38-year-old Singaporean man and the 27-year-old Malaysian man may face the death penalty.
