SINGAPORE: Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers seized 5kg of cannabis and 450g of heroin in an operation on Friday. The drugs are estimated to be worth more than S$196,000.

CNB officers were deployed to Pasir Ris Grove on Friday to look out for a suspected drug trafficker and at 7.30am, spotted a trailer driven by a 40-year-old Malaysian suspect. Half an hour later, they saw a suspected trafficker – a 35-year-old Singaporean man – arriving, along with a female companion in a car.

The suspected trafficker was seen boarding the trailer cabin from the passenger side and emerged with a paper bag. He was tailed by CNB officers and arrested at Jalan Kayu along with his companion – a 33-year-old Singaporean woman. Officers searched the car and recovered about 3kg of cannabis and 450g of heroin from within it.

The suspected drugs courier was arrested by another party of officers and 2kg of cannabis and S$7,500 cash was taken from him.

Investigations are ongoing, CNB said. Those convicted of trafficking in more than 500g of cannabis or more than 15g of heroin could face the death penalty.
