SINGAPORE: An operation by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) to arrest a suspected local drug trafficker has netted four Singaporeans and more than 900g of heroin worth S$64,000. Cash totaling more than S$8,600 was seized as well.

CNB said in a news release here the other day said that officers were deployed to Bendemeer on Monday evening for a sting when the suspected trafficker was “believed to be receiving a fresh consignment of drugs”. A 43-year-old Singaporean was spotted approaching a yellow car in a carpark at about 7.15pm and left shortly after. When he was arrested, 460g of heroin was found in his slingbag.

CNB added that three other Singaporeans – a 49-year-old man and two women, aged 40 and 33 – were also arrested, after CNB officers had tailed them from Bendemeer to Jalan Besar. About 460g of heroin was recovered in the car that the trio were in.

The home of the 49-year-old was raided and officers found a small amount of heroin and ‘Ice’ inside. Drug paraphernalia, including digital weighing scales and numerous empty plastic sachets were also seized.

Investigations into the drug activities of the four are ongoing, said CNB. The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15g.
