SINGAPORE: The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) seized 900g of cannabis at the Woodlands Checkpoint here the other day.
The drugs were found wrapped with newspapers and plastic, tucked in the pants of a 20-year-old Malaysian man who had been stopped for routine checks, it said in a joint press release with the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB). ICA officers had their suspicions raised when they saw a bulge on his back, around his waist.
The authorities said that the cannabis was worth an estimated street value of about S$29,000, and that the amount seized is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 128 cannabis abusers for a week.
They added that under the Misuse of Drugs Act, those convicted of importing more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.
