Sky Germany revenue up 10%, profits down in H1

BERLIN: Sky has increased its revenue by 10 percent over the six months to December 2016 in Germany and Austria, though its operating profits slipped compared to the year prior. In the first half of financial year 2016/2017, Sky reported revenues of GBP 907 million in Germany and Austria, up from GBP 827 million in H1 2015/2016.

In the same period, however, operating profit slipped by 9 percent, down to GBP 679 million in H1 2017 from GBP 744 million in H1 2016.

Product sales went up year-on-year, hitting 8.53 million units in H1 17, up from 7.71 million in H1 16. Retail customer numbers also grew to 4.85 million, a marked increase from 4.49 million in the year prior. By contrast, wholesale customers decreased from 145,000 in H1 16 to 135,000 in H1 17.

Overall, Sky Germany added 231,000 new customers to its base compared to the year before. Annual revenue per customer stayed the same at EUR 35.

In 2016, Sky introduced Sky Cinema Family and Sky 1 to Germany and Austria, with Sky 1 reaching a record 2.3 million viewers in its first two months. It also launched a new model set-top box, the Sky+Pro and developed the new streaming service Sky Ticket.
