COLOMBO: Sri Lanka customs planned to introduce a programme to deliver goods sent by immigrant workers to their homes. The system scheduled to be introduced from next month.
Director General of the customs Jagath Wijeweera said here the other day that it could be implemented with the assistance of the private sector. He said that the main aims of the programme are to prevent wastage of time, money and malpractices. Mr. Wijeweera said that the customs has requested to provide scanning machines to implement the system. He said that they have planned to implement the system initially with a company which has already responded to the request. He added that the customs would be able to scan the goods at its headquarters or from another place.
