SL revenue jumps in 1Q: Govt

COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s government said the state revenue has risen significantly during the first quarter, without revealing the exact figures.

“I would like to state that the revenues had gone up,” Ravi Karunanayake, Finance Minister of Sri Lanka declared.

“The revenue of Excise Department is about 9,400 million rupees during March 2015 compared to 4,100 million in November last year,”

“Sri Lanka Customs has recorded a 10 percent growth in revenue while Import and Export Control Department of the Government has recorded a seven percent increase.”

He added there is also an increase of revenue in the Inland Revenue Department.

Replying to a question by a reporter asking whether there is an impact on tax and price reduction in the interim budget, Karunanayake said “the revenue lost is much lower compare to the gain that happened,”

“We have pumped in to the economy and today there is a about 7500 rupees saving per month per family according to the statistics reveled by the Kelani and Colombo Universities.”
