Slight rise in weekly inflation ahead of Ramazan

ISLAMABAD: Ahead of Ramazan, weekly inflation slightly increased, with the annual rise standing at 1.21%, according to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

According to PBS, weekly inflation rose by 0.27%, bringing the overall annual rate to 1.21%.

The report highlights price fluctuations across essential commodities.

Over the past week, prices of 16 items dropped, 11 became more expensive, while 24 remained stable.

Key price hikes include eggs, which rose by Rs19.65 per dozen, and bananas, up by Rs18 per dozen. Sugar saw a slight increase of Re1 per kg, with its average price now at Rs155.27 per kg.

Chicken prices surged by Rs19.78 per kg, garlic by Rs7.54, and mutton by Rs4.30 per kg. Beef became costlier by Rs5.36 per kg, while lentils, particularly Masoor dal, rose by Rs0.46 per kg.

Tomatoes dropped by Rs1.58 per kg, chickpea lentils (Chana dal) by Rs4.13 per kg, onions by Rs1.02, and potatoes by Rs0.61 per kg. Prices of Moong dal, edible ghee, and a 20-kg flour bag also saw reductions.

The overall inflation trend remains moderate, with minor fluctuations across key food items.
