SMEs fulfill export orders despite lockdown

SIALKOT: The small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the auto sector have managed to secure and deliver foreign orders despite lockdowns imposed by the coronavirus pandemic that halted business activities significantly.

Speaking with a local media outlet, Mehran Commercial Enterprises (MCE) Director Export Mashood Khan informed that a tier-1 SME manufacturing unit specialising in auto interior parts exported an order of its products to a client in the United Kingdom (UK) during the lockdown.

The company that exports parts for the tractor industry mostly exported parts comprised of interior cabin components that were manufactured from start to finish in Pakistan whereas the company was able to achieve this while implementing work-from-home.

“Our economy direly needs to uplift exports and there are numerous hidden treasures in the country that we can start with,” he said.

Earlier in July, the country exported engineer goods worth $15.7 billion, out of which $648,000 worth transport equipment was exported, according to the PBS.

Meanwhile, Galaxy Polymer Engineering Director Abdul Rahman said that compliances as per European standards are the need of the hour if the country is to expand and improve its export activities.
