Smuggled car with fake number plate impounded

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate General, Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Federal Board of Revenue Islamabad has impounded a non-duty paid Toyota Altis car model 2004 with fake registration no plate worth over Rs. one million from Rawalpindi.

According to details, following a tip-off, the staff of the Special Car Cell of the Directorate General, I&I FBR Islamabad, impounded the said smuggled Toyota Altis Corolla car having Chassis No: MR053ZEC 107056088 (1598 CC) at Cantt area near 502 workshop Rawalpindi from one Muhammad Umar s/o Raja Waqar Ahmed, a resident of Plot No: 18, Gulshanabad, Adila Road, Rawalpindi (NIC No. 37405 0343088 7).

On demand, driver of the car failed to produce any legal proof regarding the import or payment of leviable customs duty and taxes except registration book. As per computerized data of the registered vehicles of the Motor Registration Authority, no record existed in the import data available with the directorate general.

The Special Car Cell has detained the vehicle under Section 17 of the Customs Act-1969. The vehicle will be sent to the Islamabad Police Headquarter for forensic test.
