Smugglers kidnap, release Customs inspector after six hours

LAHORE: Smugglers kidnapped and released Customs Intelligence and Investigation inspector after six hours during a raid conducted by the authorities near Sundar Industrial Estates the other day .

Sources on the condition of anonymity told Customs Today that on information a Customs team intercepted a container loaded with auto parts worth Rs 10 million which was coming from Quetta.

When the Customs authorities stepped to seize the auto parts loaded container which had no clearance documents, the smugglers opened fire, but no casualties were reported. After that smugglers kidnapped one of the inspectors, Hamid Babar, sources said.

It was added that the smugglers released the inspector after six hour and fled away with the smuggled auto parts.

An office of customs  intelligence when contacted confirmed Customs Today that Customs officers are always on risky assignments and sometimes smugglers use such tactics to flee away with their illegal belongings.
