Smuggling bid foiled; 150,000 yards cloth seized in Quetta

QUETTA: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Anti-Smuggling unit claimed to have captured around 150,000 yards of smuggled cloth worth millions of rupees.

According per details, acting on a tip-off, a team led by Assistant Collector Amanullah Tareen swung into action to thwart smuggling of huge quantity of foreign cloth from Afghanistan to Quetta.

The team intercepted a truck and upon a thorough search, it transpired that the truck carried more than 150,000 yards of smuggled cloths besides tyre and auto parts. According to the officials, estimated worth of the cloth will be around Rs30 million.

Meanwhile, the assistant collector said that cross border smuggling continued to be a challenge for the Customs Department in Balochistan. He said that department striving hard to cope with the menace despite severe constraints like lack of adequate manpower and equipment. He stressed the need for interagency coordination between customs and other law enforcement agencies to uproot the menace of smuggling.
