Bid to smuggle 32kg opium from Afghanistan foiled

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Customs authorities foiled an attempt of smuggling of 32 kilogram of fine quality opium, coming from Afghanistan, and arrested an Afghan national on Torkham border.

According to details, Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar staff was doing its routine checking when they stopped a pick-up with registration number C-5662 Peshawar and found the contraband opium.

The sources added that the opium was concealed in the fuel tank which was coming from Afghanistan after dropping a repatriated Afghan family. They further said the value of seized contraband is millions of rupees in the international market.

The customs lodged an FIR against an Afghan accused according to the Customs Act-1969. The customs staff also got an appreciation call from Collector MCC Peshawar Qurban Ali Khan for this successful seizure.
