Customs officials foil smuggling bids, seize bike chains, cloth

MULTAN: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has thwarted attempts to smuggle motorcycle chains and cloths worth more than Rs1.1 million in separate incidents.
As per details, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation intercepted a truck loaded with scrap. However upon search, the officials found 2,250 imported motorcycle chains and 60 branded tyres under the scrap.
The made-in-China chains were weighing 2,215 kilogramme while its owner had failed to produce any legal document of the consignment.
The cost of the chains, packed in more than hundred cartons, is said to be more than Rs 7 million.
The consignment was being transported to Lahore but Customs Inspector Anwar along with constable Zulfiqar took action and thwarted the attempt.
In another operation, the Customs I&I seized cloth measuring 3,000 yard square loaded on a truck near Sadiqabad. The estimated cost of the cloth is said to be Rs 0.4 million.
Inspector Customs Intelligence Sheikh Muhammad Arshad and Hafiz Muhammad Younas jointly foiled the smuggling bid during snap checking.
The Customs I&I has registered FIRs accordingly.
