SNGPL, SSGC suffer Rs46.37b line losses in 2014-15

ISLAMABAD: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) recorded huge combined line losses of Rs46.37 billion fiscal year 2014-15.

This was revealed when the senior Ogra officials told the sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum that the line losses of SNGPL were 11.5 percent and SSGC were 15 percent during corresponding period.

The meeting, which was chaired by Convener of the Committee Senator Nisar Muhammad Khan, discussed the issues of Unaccounted for Gas (UFG), gas theft in district Karak of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and new gas connections.

The officials of the SNGPL informed the committee that there are 10,000 illegal connections in the area and out of 11.5 percent line losses of the company, throughout SNGPL command area; two percent are coming from Karak.

During 2014-15 the total cost of losses in district Karak was Rs3.44 billion. “Out of 11.5 line losses 4.5 percent are measurement/technical losses while the remaining losses are from gas theft and illegal connections,” General Manager SNGPL KP Arbab Sadiq informed.
