TOKYO: SoftBank Corp. Director Ronald Fisher earned 1.79 billion yen ($15 million) last fiscal year, a record for an executive at a Japanese company, according to a researcher.

Fisher took in about 1.49 billion yen in stock-related compensation in the year ended March 31, including contributions from SoftBank units, according to a SoftBank filing Friday. His pay is a record according to Tokyo Shoko Research Ltd. SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son received 131 million yen in the year.

The record pay shows the gap with executives in the U.S., where the top 10 earners averaged more than $100 million, lead by GoPro Inc.’s Nicholas Woodman at $285.3 million, according to the Bloomberg Pay Index. Fisher, 67, president and founder of SoftBank Holdings Inc., helped lead Son’s expansion in the U.S., including the acquisition of wireless carrier Sprint Corp.

Fisher, who also founded SoftBank’s venture capital business, beat out Kohji Tanabe of autoparts maker U-Shin Ltd., who had total compensation of 1.4 billion yen, according to Yoshihiro Sakata, a manager at corporate research firm Tokyo Shoko.
