CAPE TOWN: The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has welcomed the increase in early compliance by taxpayers in the current 2015 filing season, having already received two million income tax returns by August 20.
The tax filing season began on July 1, 2015. By August 20, 44.77 percent of taxpayers required to submit a tax return had already done so, compared with 39.31 percent at the same time last year. Of the total submissions, more than 53 percent have been via eFiling.
“We thank taxpayers for their recognition of the importance of tax revenues towards socially and economically developing our country,” stated SARS Commissioner Tom Moyane. “This is also testimony to the excellent work being done by SARS employees across South Africa in serving taxpayers through the branches, call center and online, and spreading the message of compliance.”
SARS has reminded taxpayers that the deadline for taxpayers who submit their tax returns manually by post or by dropping them off in a SARS drop box is September 30, 2015. The deadline for all non-provisional taxpayers (the majority of employed individuals who submit a tax return) via eFiling or submitted to a SARS branch is November 27, 2015.
