CANBERRA: The State Government of South Australia has proposed a time zone shift to them that is aimed towards making Australia more business-friendly.
The Government proposed changing its time zone to align with either the eastern states or closer to Western Australia.
SA Premier Jay Weatherill said the half-hour time difference between the eastern states, and the 90-minute difference with Western Australia, could cause “confusion across the spectrum of our daily lives”.
“The business community has raised this issue with me on a number of occasions and I believe the time is right to put the broader question to the community about the day-to-day inconvenience of a half-hour time zone,” he said.
“We need to be better connected with the nation and the world, and we also need to realise the opportunities and benefits.”
Business SA chief executive Nigel McBride said it was a “no-brainer” the time zone should be brought in line with Victoria and New South Wales.
“There is no credible reason whatsoever that we should have a 30-minute time [difference],” he said.
“It’s well and truly overdue.”
