WASHINGTON: Hotel revenue across the state continues to climb, according to figures released Friday. Statewide, revenue per available room was up 6 percent in January compared to the same month last year, according to the S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The average revenue per room was $42.16 a night, which includes empty nights. The report didn’t break down revenue by city.
The department’s forecasting company predicts that hotel occupancy statewide for the next couple months will be about the same as last year — down 0.1 percent in April and June and up 1.4 percent in May. Also in the department’s report, revenue from state parks is down for the fiscal year but jumped up in January compared to last year. Revenue was down 4.9 percent from July through January, but revenue in January was up 6.8 percent compared to last year. The report attributed the jump to warm weather and increased camping. Also in the report, the 122,816 arrivals at the Charleston International Airport in January were up 8.8 percent compared to a year earlier.
