SEOUL: South Korean stocks traded 0.11 percent lower late Friday morning on losses in tech firms and automakers amid a strengthening local currency.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) slid 2.33 points to 2,030.94 as of 11:20 a.m.
Tech giant Samsung Electronics fell 0.55 percent and chipmaker SK hynix retreated 0.95 percent.
Top automaker Hyundai Motor sank 1.54 percent and its auto parts affiliate, Hyundai Mobis, dropped 1.89 percent.
NCsoft, a leading online game developer, rose 0.25 percent following a partnership breakup with its rival, Nexon.
The local currency was changing hands at 1,128.35 won against the greenback as of 11:20 a.m., up 1.85 won from Thursday’s close.
