South Punjab gets special priority in budget: Channer

LAHORE: Special priority has been given to South Punjab in the new budget which is reflected from allocation of 36 percent of total development budget for this region.

Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Syed Haroon Ahmed Sultan Bukhari and Cooperative Minister Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channer said here on Saturday.

They said that this budget is four percent more than the ratio of this region in the population of Punjab.

They said that education sector has been given priority for bringing backward areas at par with developed ones which include projects of setting up of Khawaja Farid University of Engineering and Information at Rahim Yar Khan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture Multan, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at Bahawalpur, provision of modern transport in Multan and poverty alleviation.

They said that besides establishment of Tayyap Erdogan Hospital Muzaffargarh, ICU and Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery block at Bahawalpur, District Headquarters Hospital DG Khan is being up-graded to teaching hospital.

They said that different schemes of irrigation will be completed speedily and network of roads will be laid in South Punjab for eliminating problems of transportation.
