MADRID: The governments of Spain and Japan have agreed to streamline their customs procedures to facilitate trade, ensure compliance and exchange information on new customs procedures.
Specifically, the deal allows the customs authorities from the two countries – the Ministry of Finance in Japan and the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations in Spain – as well as relevant law enforcement agencies, to cooperate in and exchange information on movement of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors; weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices; significant art and antiquities; goods subject to substantial customs duties; goods infringing on intellectual property rights; and poisonous goods, nuclear and radioactive materials and any other dangerous substances.
Furthermore, the customs authorities will exchange information on research and development, and new customs procedures, enforcement aids and techniques and training activities. They also plan to exchange personnel.
