MADRID: Spain’s trade deficit rose 25.5 percent in January from a year earlier, the economy ministry said on Wednesday, with imports outstripping exports on the back of strong domestic demand and imported energy costs.

Exports rose 6.5 percent to a record high for Jaunary of 22.8 billion euros ($28.0 billion) while imports rose 8.9 percent to their own record reading of 26.8 billion euros, giving a deficit of 3.94 billion euros, ministry data showed.
