Spanish home mortgages increase 7.1% in Oct

MADRID: The number of home mortgages granted to prospective buyers in Spain increased by 7.1 percent in October when compared with the same month in 2014, according to data released on Monday by Spain’s Statistical Office (INE).

According to the INE a total of 19,195 home mortgages were granted to prospective buyers in October, which meant a 7.1 percent rise year-on-year but a 19.4 percent fall on a month-on-month basis.

The amount of capital loaned stood at 2.144 billion euros (2.329 billion U.S. dollars), which meant an 18.7 percent rise on a year-on-year basis and an 18.1 percent fall on a month-on-month basis.

Meanwhile, the average value of mortgage stood at 111,711 euros, 10.8 percent more than in the same month in 2014.

Spain’s home mortgages have been rising for 17 consecutive months year-on-year.
