Spanish home mortgages surges by 21.8% in July

MADRID: The number of home mortgages granted to prospective buyers in Spain increased by 21.8 percent in July when compared with the same month in 2014, according to data published on Friday by Spain’s Statistical Office (INE).

According to the INE, a total of 21,863 home mortgages were granted to prospective buyers in July, which meant a 21.8-percent rise on a year-on-year basis and a 1.9-percent rise on a month-to-month basis.

The amount of capital loaned in July rose by 26.6 percent on a year-on-year basis to around 2.282 billion euros (about 2.56 billion U.S. dollars), while the average mortgage value of stood at 104,402 euros, which meant a 3.9-percent rise on a year on-year basis.

In the first seven months of the year, home mortgages rose by 21.2 percent when compared with the same period of a year earlier.

Home mortgages in Spain have been rising for 14 consecutive months on a year-on-year basis.
