Spanish imports climb at start of 2016

LONDON: Spain’s fresh fruit and vegetable imports for the first two months of 2016 grew 22 per cent in volume and 29 per cent in value when compared with the same period last year. That is according to the latest figures collected by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness Directorate General of Customs Data, published by Fepex. Overall fresh fruit and vegetable imports for the two months came to 480,107 tonnes, at a value of €367.5m.

Imports of vegetables grew by 23 per cent in volume, reaching 269,511 tonnes, and 33 per cent in value, totaling €145m. Fruit imports, meanwhile, rose 21 per cent in volume, up to 210,596 tonnes, and 27 per cent in value to €223m.
