MADRID: Spain’s export of fresh produce to the UK fell by 2% in both volume and value in the nine months to October 2017, according to new official data, despite an overall rise in the value of UK imports over the period. Spanish sector’s third largest export market after Germany and France, while Spain is the UK’s largest supplier. FEPEX, the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Live Plants, said: “The importance of the English market for the Spanish fruit and vegetable sector means that the negotiations for the exit of the United Kingdom from the EU are followed very closely by the sector. For FEPEX the worst scenario would be that the exports of fruit and vegetables from Spain to the United Kingdom would be subject to the rules of the World Trade Organization, which would, among other consequences, give commercial advantages to competition from third countries.”
