MADRID: The latest assessment of public debt in Spain to be published by the Banco de España places the total at Spanish public debt reaches 98% of GDP1,046 million euros at the end of the first quarter of this year, making it equivalent to 98% of GDP.
The total consists of 792 million euros in central government debt, 240 million corresponding to regional governments and 38 million of debt which has been run up by the Town Halls across the country. Offset against these figures is the surplus of 24 million euros attributed to the Social Security fund.
