ISLAMABAD: The Special Car Cell, Directorate General Customs Intelligence and investigation, Federal Board of Revenue Islamabad, has impounded a non-duty-paid smuggled BMW 7-series car worth over Rs16million.
The Special Car Cell received a tip-off through an informer that the said non-duty-paid unregistered vehicle modelled 2003 (4500-CC) was impounded by the excise staff Islamabad due to a display of fake registration number of the car parked on the premises of Excise and Taxation office H-9 sector Islamabad.
Following the information, a letter was addressed to Ms Marrayam Mumtaz, Director Excise and Taxation Islamabad, for handing over the BMW car for further action under the relevant provisions of law. On Monday, intelligence officer of the special car cell took the NDP smuggled BMW 7-series into the possession from the staff of the ETO Islamabad.
The Excise and Taxation office Islamabad had issued a seven-day notice to the owner and possessor of car Umer Adil Butt, resident of Mohallah Rungpura Sialkot, who did not turn up till Monday for appearance. As per record of the Directorate General regarding the import and auction, no data was found in any record.
So the Car Cell impounded the BMW car under Section 168 of the Customs Act-1969 for violation of Sections 2(s) and 16 punishable under Section 156 (1) 89 of the Customs Act-1969. The Special Car Cell has issued the notice to Umer Adil But under Section 171 ibid on available address.
