Special Car Cell impounds smuggled vehicle worth Rs03m

ISLAMABAD: The Special Car Cell of the Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigation has impounded a Non-Duty Paid smuggled vehicle Toyota Mark-X worth over Rs03million.

According to sources, the Special Car Cell received a tip-off that a Toyota Mark-X with registration No. AQX-300 Sindh Modelled 2005 (3000-CC) is parked at Rawat Chowk Islamabad. The staff rushed to the spot and found the vehicle parked on the roadside of G.T. Road near Rawat Chowk Islamabad. As soon as the customs staff reached the spot, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene leaving the car abandoned.

Despite hectic efforts, nobody came forward to claim the vehicle. Ultimately after waiting for more than 02 hours, the vehicle was taken into possession in the presence of witnesses and shifted it to the HQ office. The chassis of the car was physically examined and tallied with the record of import but no record of the same chassis was found. According to ETO and MRA Sindh Registration, data registration number AQX-300 Sindh was allotted to another Toyota Mark-X Car having different chassis number. The Special Car Cell impounded the vehicle as un-claimed under Section 17 of the Customs Act-1969 with the approval of the competent authority for verification of its import status, payment of duty and taxes and forensic lab test.
