ISLAMABAD: The Special Car Cell, Directorate General, Customs Intelligence and Investigation, has taken into possession a used non-duty-paid smuggled American Wrangler Jeep worth Rs3.70million, not involving duties and taxes of Rs4.970million.
A team of the Special Car Cell, consisting of Superintendent Saeed Ahmad, Intelligence Officer Gul Nawaz and two Sepoys, intercepted the said Chrysler jeep near Nadra Center, Blue Area Islamabad. The possessor of the jeep was Nadir Ali son of Mustafeez Rehman, a resident of Sector F-6 Islamabad.
On demand, driver or possessor of the car failed to prove the legal status of the vehicle. So the team of the special car cell impounded the jeep and shifted it to the HQs office situated at G-10, Islamabad.
The chassis of the vehicle was physically examined and tallied with the record data of import, Amnesty Scheme 2013 and auctioned vehicles available with the directorate general, but no record of the same chassis existed in any data. Therefore the vehicle was taken into possession under Section of 168 of the Customs Act-1969 for violation of Section 2(s) and 16 read with SRO.566 (1) 2005 dated 6th June 2005 and Section 3(1) of Imports and Exports (Control) Act-950 punishable under Section 156(1) 89 & 178 of the Customs Act-1969.
