SPI inflation increases by 0.26%

ISLAMABAD: The inflation, measured by Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ending on October 29 increased by 0.26 percent to 217.31 points against the previous week’s 216.75 points for the combined income group as compared to the previous week.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the SPI for the combined group in the week under review increased by 1.12 percent as compared to same period of last year.

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. On the other hand, SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs 8000 was also increased by 0.28 percent as it went up from 208.85 points in the previous week to 209.44 points in the week under review.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001-12,000, Rs 12001-18000, Rs 18001-35000 and above Rs 35000 was increased by 0.50 percent, 0.62 percent, 1.77 percent and 0.94 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 15 items registered decrease, while that of 11 items increased with the remaining 27 items prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included bananas, gur, rice-irri-6, rice basmati, LPG cylinder 11(kg), red chilly, sugar, vegetable ghee, cooking oil tin, pulse masoor (washed), vegetable ghee (loose), mustard oil, pulse mash (washed), pulse gram (washed) and pulse moong (washed).
